Dr. Ewa Palasz-Rutkowska
Dr. Ewa Rutkowska is assistant professor in the Japanese and Korean department
of Warsaw University, editor of the journal "Japonica", and also
Chairman of the Board of the Takashima Foundation, which promotes Japanese
studies in Poland. As she was on a month's visit to Japan, with the main
purpose of conferring a Polish order on the Takashima Foundation's founder,
Mr. K. Takashima; she purposely extended her stay so as to be able to accept
the invitation to address the ASJ.
Dr. Palasz-Rutkowska analysed Japanese policy in Manchuria for her master's
thesis, and wrote "General Masaki Jinzaburoh and the Imperial Way Faction
(Kohdohha) in the Japanese Army, 1932-1936" as her doctoral dissertation
at the University of Warsaw. She has been in Japan on two occasions, first
with a Mombusho scholarship and then as a Japan Foundation fellow.
We are indebted to H.E. the Polish Ambassador, Mr. Henryk Lipszyc, for taking
advantage of a visit to Japan by Dr. Palasz-Rutkowska to invite her to be
our speaker in March.
