The 1995 Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting opened in an unusual way this year, when our
long-time president, Dr. Ronald Suleski (wearing, like the other leading
participants in the evening's activities, a boutonniere presented by the
president of Amway, Japan), announced that he was stepping down after eight
years, the longest term of any ASJ president. Following the regular procedure,
he asked for approval of the annual report
and treasurer's report, and then handed over to Dr. Michael Cooper to conduct
the elections as temporary president. This he proceeded to do with his accustomed
alacrity, resulting in the election of the Officers,
Councilors and Committee Members for 1995.
Mr. Sioris' first act in taking over was to ask the company to observe a
moment's silence to show our sympathy for the victims of the Great Hanshin
Earthquake that took place on January 17th. He then thanked the members
for the trust they were placing in him, the test of which would be seen
in a year's time, when he hoped that with everyone's cooperation the hall
would continue to be as well filled as it was this time.
